As of January 2003, FREE WORDS has primarily been placed in sites in most states of the US (Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennesee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconson, Wyoming) and other countries including Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Fiji, France, Germany, Malaysia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Phillipines, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Particularly large distributions have taken place in New York City, and in Australia, Canada, Germany, and Sweden. New sites are being added. Volunteer distributors may well be bringing them to your city or town today.

If the surrounding environment permits, FREE WORDS sites are identified with hot pink stickers on nearby street poles or boxes. If you see one of these, chances are that FREE WORDS has been placed in a nearby bookstore or library. Distributors are encouraged to place the books wherever they like in a site, though the book is generally alphabetized under F-R-E-E.
